Johannes Motona was born on the 29 October 1972 at Seshego in Polokwane, Limpopo Province. He attended his junior primary schooling at Phishego primary school from 1978 to 1981, senior primary schooling at Kgobokanang primary school from 1982 to 1984 and secondary schooling at Khaiso High school from 1985 to 1989. He holds the following tertiary qualifications: Senior Primary Teachers Diploma from Kwena Moloto College of Education, Bachelor of Arts (Education), Bachelor of Education Honours (Education Management), Masters of Education (Education Management) degrees from the University of South Africa (UNISA). Additional qualifications he holds are Advanced Certificate in Education (School Management and Leadership) from the University of Limpopo, Certificate in Labour Law in the Education Sector and Diploma in Labour Law Practice from Nelson Mandela University, and Advanced Certificate in Personal Computer Applications from National Institute for Information Technology. He further obtained Masters of Law (Labour Law) from the Nelson Mandela University. He is also qualified as CCMA (Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration) Commissioner in 2018.  Johannes started teaching in 1993 to 2003 at Hlabana Primary where he also acted as Head of Department (HOD). He was appointed as principal of Leokaneng Primary School in Moletjie from 2004 to 2009. He moved to Letlotlo Primary school as principal from 2010 to date. Johannes is currently on secondment with PEU on a full- time basis since 2017 wherein he served as Vice President till October 2019. He is currently the President of PEU. He served PEU as Chairperson of Moloto West branch from 2004 – 2006, Chairperson of Polokwane Central district from 2007 – 2010, Motions and Labour Chairperson of Polokwane Central district from 2010 – 2014, Limpopo provincial Vice Chairperson from 2014 – 2015 and Limpopo provincial chairperson in 2016. Johannes is married to Kwena Sina Motona and God blessed them with three children – two daughters (Nthabiseng and Lebogang) and a son (Mogau). Johannes and his family are grounded on Christian values and have accepted Jesus Christ as the saviour of their lives, and are members of New Life in Christ Church.
