MEDIA RELEASE FOR THE PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS ’UNION ON HER 108TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Over six hundred delegates of the Professional Educators’ Union (PEU) will converge in Pretoria, for the Union‘s 108th Annual Conference, scheduled for the 13 and 14 March 2014.
The Conference will be held under the Theme: Public Education as part of Public Sector facing delivery problems. The Public protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela, has been invited and scheduled to deliver a Keynote Address at noon.
The Minister of Basic Education, Hon. Angie Motshekga, will set the tone of Conference by opening the conference officially, just before Keynote Address. The Conference will deliberate on topical issues affecting educators and the Union, during a close session, scheduled to start at 14H00 to 18H00.High on the agenda will be the current vexatious and provocative offer of 4,5% by employer , as a response to labour’s revised salary demand of 10% towards salary increase for public servants.
The South African Policing Union (SAPU), who have a working together partnership with PEU in the PSCBC, will deliver message of solidarity to delegates. The Conference will be graced by delegates from ANTUSA, a SADC Regional body constituted by Teacher Unions that are politically non-aligned in their respective countries, namely, Botswana, Lesotho, Mauritius, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The President of the Union, Mr. Malose Kutumela, will deliver his Presidential Address on the second day, reflecting on conference proceedings, the current state of the Union, and mapping the way forward.
