MEDIA RELEASE FOR THE PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS ’UNION ON HER 108TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Over six hundred delegates of the Professional Educators’ Union (PEU) will converge in Pretoria, for the Union‘s 108th Annual Conference, scheduled for the 13 and 14 March 2014.

The Conference will be held under the Theme: Public Education as part of Public Sector facing delivery problems. The Public protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela, has been invited and scheduled to deliver a Keynote Address at noon.

PEU conveys her condolences,

The Professional Educators Union has received with great shock the news on the loss of 67 of our citizens, when a Church structure collapsed during a service on Friday 12/09/2014. This calamity that has befallen our African Nation makes it difficult to accept and come to terms with.

Our hearts and prayers are with the families of the departed. We are quite aware that at this point, words alone will not be enough to alleviate the excruciating pain that come with this loss.

Naledi Mokotedi (in a PEU cap) is our youngest member,born on August 19th 1991.She is seen on this photo posing with her colleagues from Seaparankwe Primary School in Tshwane. She completed her B.Ed. specialising in Early Childhood Development with Foundation phase in October 2013. She joined PEU in January this year.

Salary increase for public Servants

SALARY INCREASE FOR PUBLIC SERVANTS

The salary increase for Public Servants for 2014/15 will be 7,2% effeceted from the 01 April 2014

The increase will be implemented together with the salary run of the 15th May 2014, backdated from April 2014.

A further 0,2% owed to Public Servants between the actual CPI and projected CPT of 2013 salary will be paid on the 01 May 2014.

Distribution of condoms an issue of contention at Aids conference

Civil society movements, attending the seventh SA Aids conference in Durban, want African governments to distribute condoms in schools.

They claim that adolescents are left behind in the fight against Aids. It’s estimated that 139 000 young South Africans, mainly girls, contract HIV every year.

A lack of adequate information and protection tools are cited as some of the contributing factors. However, government and Aids lobby groups are at loggerheads about condom distribution at schools.

A government’s draft policy proposes a comprehensive health-care service.

THE 2014 ANTUSA GAMES

The Association of Non-Aligned teachers ‘Unions of Southern Africa (ANTUSA)’s technical committee will meet in Lesotho, Maseru from the 07th to the 09th of February 2014 in order to finalise preparations of the 7th edition of the annual ANTUSA games.

Teachers from ANTUSA Unions in the SADEC region namely:BETUZ(Zambia), Bosetu(Bostwana), PEU(RSA), PTUZ(Zimbabwe), TUN(Namibia) and UPSEE(Mauritius) will be showcasing their talents in different sporting code like, Soccer, Netball, Volleyball and other related cultural events including symposium and debate sessions.
